AVATAR 2018

This year’s event was catered by El Gaucho at JM Cellars in Woodinville. The 2018 poster theme was “On Location” featuring the 2005 remake of The Longest Yard. Poster was created by Minuteman Press of Redmond. Woodinville Jr. Football provided jerseys, pads and helmets for the photos shot by Dai Ross Photography. Coincidentally, our football themed event was set at the same time as the Seahawks’ first post season game of the year. A/V components…

The Quality Of Quality

May 2018 The word ‘quality’ is defined as having characteristics of high grade or superiority. The mere sound of the word makes us think of words like precision, solid and expensive. One would hope that NASA demands the highest quality of its rocket components. And that all the parts used in constructing the cars we drive, the office buildings we work in, and the planes we travel in are given a high degree of scrutiny.…

“The Tenhulzen Yard”

This year’s annual company photo is a compilation of individual head shots to replicate the 2005 remake of The Longest Yard. Dai Ross Photography directed our crew of favorite jerseys into various positions. My Blue Heaven

This 1971 two-story home had limited storage, forcing the use of plastic bins for the additional items. A 4-foot expansion toward the back yard included a 26’ concealed beam supporting the upper floor. The terrazzo floor was too expensive to remove, impossible to match, and so the schematic layout went through several iterations to accommodate the decorative flooring.  A complimentary floor surface at the addition is delineated by a large island for culinary accouterments and…

The Soffit Remains The Same

Custom building cabinetry to fit all of the customer wishes while making sure it all lines up under the existing soffit is no small task. This project was done with minimal drywall repair and without refinishing floors. 2-tone cabinetry and 2-tone backsplash set a neutral warmth for accenting accouterments. Custom storage allows for better access to kitchen wares by making the boxes built to 1/8″ increments instead of 3″ increments. Cabinetry was painted in place…

A Periwinkle In Time

Sometimes all a master bath upgrade needs, is changing everything except the wall color. Recessed lighted mirrors and a cluster of pendants over new stained alder vanity with quartz countertop enhanced by faux marble tile. The barrier-free shower was enlarged to use the deck of the more comfortable tub as a foot rest.

Sweat Equity

Not every addition is designed to sweat in. After considering a main floor addition for an exercise room, our customer came up with the idea of having it located over the existing game room below. This meant it would be accessible only by the master suite – which worked out well for the adjacent bathroom and steam shower. The design began with engineering the floor loads and designing the mechanical layout through the new structure. …

Yoga Studio

A 1962 daylight rambler with a lower floor used only as storage was upgraded to a usable guest suite and yoga studio. Design details were to replicate the finishes of the upper level with bright and cheery tones. The project required replacement of much of the existing electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems to bring them up to code. Wood burning fireplace was converted to a gas insert and insulation added at the exterior walls for…

Tres Chic Rambler

This project was very special in that it was a major remodel of the family home that this father-daughter duo spent her growing up years in, and by circumstances have been brought together again to share. They desired a kitchen that was incorporated with the rest of the home. The vision was to create a great room concept and integrate the adjacent rooms while increasing storage and comfort in the kitchen. Secondary goals included a…

The Accessory Dwelling Unit

September 2018 If you’re reading this, your home is likely on a sizeable lot and comfortable for a family of four or more. You may be nearing retirement with your significant other, having raised your children in a 3,000+ square foot home with three garage bays full of memories, and a decaying sport court amidst a plethora of intimidating yard work. In the current housing market, it doesn’t make sense to downsize when entering the…
