The Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) is a popular way to provide separate and independent living quarters for aging parents. Sean Gallagher and Traci Tenhulzen attended CAPS (Certified Aging in Place Specialist) training earlier this week. The 2-day professional designation program includes negotiating doorways, elevators and barriers in a wheelchair while wearing dark glasses smeared with petroleum jelly.
Since 2001, the CAPS designation has established professional means for adapting homes to accommodate mobility challenges.
This mid 1970’s daylight rambler has been transformed to accommodate a simple lifestyle. with intentionally designed spaces. Cabinetry panels create warmth of the vertical surfaces while elements of stone, metal and glass add subtle and accessorizable personality. This bathroom was once a lower floor kitchen directly below the upper floor kitchen. Modern conveniences include heated towel bar, barrier-free shower and hydrotherapy tub.
