Cooking During a Kitchen Remodel

During a kitchen remodel, there are few alternatives for meals. A temporary kitchen in an adjacent room or in the garage makes the process a little more bearable.  In most cases, the temporary kitchen reduces the inconvenience of the construction process. Away space is very important during any renovation. Honoring and respecting the privacy of a home is difficult to do when construction takes over. By setting and maintaining expectations of controlled chaos, most customers experience far less…

Roofed Deck

Homes built with decks attached are often undersized and short-lived in this climate.  Once the siding is installed, the deck is attached to the house and then the enire exterior is painted, including the deck suface.  This process locks in moisture and eventually rots out the cedar boards that make up the deck surface. Deck renovations often include expansion to acommodate furniture, a grille and lighting for outdoor living enjoyment and entertaining. Occasionally, a roof…

Evolution of the “Consumer” Web Source

Last summer, TR received a bad review on Yelp from someone who is not even a customer. The complaint was about how vehicles were parked at a construction site. As with most consumer-based research sites, there is no way to resolve a dispute before it is publicly posted. Alternatively, we welcomed a ridiculous complaint on our Localloop profile page. The initial comment and response were subsequently posted on our Facebook page. Dispute resolution is just one…

The Other Boomerang Generation

In recent years, we have increasingly performed projects for middle-aged couples with their parents in mind. Specifically, to encourage the older generation to move in with the younger one. The best solution for this growing demand is to build an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) attached to the single family residence. And the permitting process for this type of project has become increasingly easier to obtain. ADU’s generally incorporate universal design elements which make it manageable…

Outdoor Living Room

Following the reconfiguration of this home’s Kitchen/Living Room/Family Room areas, this exterior living space was created with the goal of year-round enjoyment. The doorway was relocated to a new flush Trex deck surface with perimeter wedding cake stairs to a sand finish concrete patio. Complete with skylights and ceiling fan, the underside of the roof was chosen to accommodate recessed can lighting. Roofing material was chosen for future re-roof of the entire house. The backside…
