March is an important month for many reasons. It marks the start of spring and is a time to observe Women’s History Month and recognize the accomplishments of women in history. It is also the time when Women in Construction Week (March 5-11) takes place. This week serves as an important reminder of the contributions that women have made in the Building industry since its inception.
One woman who was recently honored by BIAW (Building Industry Association of Washington) was Traci Tenhulzen, one of three people featured in Building Insight Magazine’s March edition. She is the seventh female president in MBAKS’s 114-year history and has been an active member for 25 years, including 3 on its board.
“I appreciate the unique position that I am in being a female in a male-dominated industry,” Tenhulzen said.
Tenhulzen began her career in 2001 with an audit, training and safety company which led to a network of commercial contractors, homebuilders and heavy equipment operators before eventually selling her company and partnering with her husband Michael Tenhulzen in his family business, Tenhulzen Residential Design Build Remodeling in 2012.
Tenhulzen attributes much of her success to preparing every day for each job she takes on, asking questions, doing research or drawing from her years working in sales or customer service experience. For 2023 leadership year she has chosen “Root Connection – Together We Are Stronger” as her theme.
This Women In Construction Week (March 5-11) is an important time to recognize Traci Tenhulzen and other women like her who are making valuable contributions to the building industry today!
