Process Overview

The basis of our “movie theme” approach to remodeling began with the idea that our field crew is “on stage” at every job site. Whether there is a camera or not, our staff is trained to work in occupied spaces as if they were their own. Loud radios, foul language and smoking are prohibited on our job sites. We know that concerns about security, weatherization and dust are of prime importance, which is why we…

Voluntary Consultation

Construction site safety is one of the most important things we do. The Governor’s recovery plan has begun with the first phase allowing projects that had begun prior to the shut down, to continue within specific guidelines. In effort to verify our COVID-19 protocols are appropriate, we invited an L&I inspector to two of our job sites. During the consultation, the inspector was impressed with: Employee training Site specific safety site binders PPE use and…

Virtual Design Meetings

Thanks to modern technology, several of our current design customers have enjoyed developing their projects through the magic of online platforms. This video outlines how we can safely perform the design process for the foreseeable future. In most cases, we are scheduling a single visit to our customers’ homes rather than the 2 to 3 visits under normal circumstances. Home Improvement Pandemic

While quarantined and working from home, we find lots of time to dream about what our homes could be. Whether your needs are upgrades, repairs or complete replacement, we have the experience to help with inspiration. And not just to accommodate today’s needs, but to think through how the improvements will function as the needs change over time. The planning phase can take a few months, so we recommend starting the process. For example, if…

Raise Bridge or Lower River

Bigger is not always better. When a home starts to feel like its not functioning the way it is supposed to, the natural tendency is to add more space. But more square footage does not necessarily mean a more spacious or efficient house. Instead of raising the bridge, consider lowering the river. That is to say, instead of adding another room, try transforming existing rooms into spaces with dual purpose. Remodeling is a Green building…

The Impact of Freezing Weather

We’re not used to having the temperature dip below 20 degrees. Snowmageddon is termed not only for our inability to effectively manage snow removal, but also for the effect it has on our housing stock. From heaving ground to bursting pipes to damaged roofs and drainage systems, our homes take a beating in the severe cold as indicated in this article from 2009. Most of the damage caused is invisible. Cracking foundations are perhaps the…

2019 Company Photo: “The Little Tenhulzens”

The inspiration for this year’s poster comes from the classic film, “The Little Rascals,” a theme that was voted for by attendees at last year’s AVATAR event. Filmed at VMG Studios by Dai Ross Photography captured the team in Little Rascal’s 1940’s inspired attire. A 30-second behind the scenes video was taken while individual head shots were taken to splice into a group photo. Since 2014, Tenhulzen’s annual company photo tradition has been inspired by movie posters. Last year’s…
